What the owners wanted
When Dezera and Khris had the opportunity to build what Khris calls their “dream house,” they wanted a home that combined a spacious living area with an expansive garage space. That’s why they chose to have a pole barn home built, a decision that ultimately gave them everything they dreamed of—and more.
What was special about the project
Wick pole barns are typically built with highly engineered, prefabricated laminated wooden posts buried in the ground to provide support. But Khris wanted an alternative where the posts would be secured to a concrete foundation above ground.
Builder Nick Welch (more on him below) and engineers from Wick Buildings made sure that Khris ultimately got exactly what he was looking for.
Other special features of this pole barn home include:
A large play area just for the kids. “Our kids have friends over all the time,” says Khris, “because there’s so much to do, so much room to play.”
A roomy kitchen for entertaining. “The kitchen is the best part,” according to Dezera. “You’ve got so much space. The double oven was my main thing that I really wanted so I can do family dinners and holidays.”
Extra-large windows. Because Khris wanted “a lot of natural lighting,” extra-large windows were an integral part of the living room area.
Who helped build it
Dezera and Khris chose to go with Nick Welch and his company, Welch Buildings, an authorized Wick Builder. Nick has more than 20 years of construction experience with Wick Buildings.
“I’ve known Nick for quite a few years, seen his work and seen the quality that Wick buildings are,” says Khris.
Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice
Dezera and Khris have benefitted in a number of ways by opting for a Wick pole barn. In addition to having Wick engineers help them get exactly what they wanted, there’s also the factor of quality.
“The quality of Wick products is second to none,” says Khris. “The trusses are just—you could park a tank on this building and it’ll hold it.”
Additional advantages of a Wick building include:
Superior lumber. Wick uses only machine graded or machine evaluated lumber for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.
Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in less denting. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection. Our paint is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Dezera and Khris chose smoke gray walls and a black roof.
A more versatile building at a more affordable price. Wick pole barns maximize the potential of open space. This helps give owners more options at a more affordable price. In the words of Dezera, “There’s just so much space. You can do whatever you want. Anything you’ve thought of, you can do it.”
