Workshop and Storage Shed Combo Create Ideal “Toy Barn”

What kind of building works best for not only storing a variety of vehicles but also working on them? This owner spent a lot of time researching the answer to that question. He eventually chose a post-frame building from Wick. Find out why he’s so happy with the result.

What the owner wanted

Alan wanted a more spacious building to store everything from a tractor and pickup truck to a golf cart and Ford Model A. But he also wanted a great space for working on these vehicles. Today, he says, “I can’t be happier” with what he calls his “toy barn.”

What was special about the project

Having a vision for your post-frame building is important. That said, working with a true building expert can make a huge difference in your long-term satisfaction. For example, Alan initially thought windows weren’t necessary, citing security concerns.

Builder Jason Kerr understood those concerns (more on him below), but he also explained to Alan just how important windows are for proper ventilation in a workshop with car projects.

With Jason’s insights, Alan ultimately opted for high-quality, strategically located windows. “We ended up with these windows. I have great ventilation here without opening the big doors. So it’s things like that that help me to get this building. What I’ve got is perfect.”

Who helped build it

After looking at “lots of brochures” and doing “lots of talking with different contractors,” Alan says he chose Jason Kerr Construction, an authorized Wick builder.

“Jason knew what he was doing,” says Alan. In fact, Alan was more than just impressed; he was downright excited to watch the project unfold.

“I was out here like a little kid,” he says. “I felt so comfortable with watching him, seeing how he was doing the work around the building. I felt it was being done correct. There were no shortcuts.”

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

Along with Alan’s overall satisfaction with both the building and the building process, there are additional features worth noting. These underscore the unique advantages of a Wick post-frame building.

Superior lumber. Wick uses only lumber that meets or exceeds machine graded specifications for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins, to make our building stronger and last longer. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.

Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in less denting. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection. Our paint is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Alan chose beige walls and a hunter green roof.

A durable, expansive building at an affordable price. Wick provides affordable buildings without sacrificing quality. According to Alan, the extensive research he conducted led him to conclude that Wick had “the best price.”
