A Pole Barn for Storage AND Family Getaways Transforms Rural Property

For 20+ years, a tiny shed was all this family had to store ATVs and other equipment on their gorgeous chunk of land in rural Kansas. But that ultimately changed when they realized the potential of a pole barn, one that could be used not only for storage but also for getting away and having fun.

What the owner wanted

After years of settling for a storage shed that was, in his own words, “woefully inadequate,” Phillip wanted to build something much more substantial on his rural property.

More specifically, he wanted a space that could serve as both a practical storage building AND an inviting place for friends and family to kick back and enjoy the great outdoors.

What was special about the project

Today, thanks to their new pole barn, Phillip and his family have plenty of room for storing machinery and equipment. In fact, he says, “I’ve got some friends that have stored things here.”

But what really makes this project special are the added features that have transformed the rural property into a true destination.

“I like the fact that you can bring people out here and just relax and enjoy being here, and this building allows for that,” says Phillip. Consider these examples:

Looking to the future, Phillip says, “I hope that after I’m said and gone that the family continues to have good memories here.”

Who helped build it

A big part of Phillip’s satisfaction with the project process and the final result was Greg Drechsler, owner of Drechsler Construction. Greg is a certified Wick builder who came highly recommended from Phillip’s brother-in-law, an architect who had worked with Drechsler Construction.

The recommendation could not have worked out better for Phillip. “Greg is such a personable guy. Man, he’s fun to work with,” he says.

But more than that, Greg brings 25 years of knowledge and experience building a variety of Wick pole barns. “When Greg showed me the whole design, I was pretty much done. My big thing is, if you know a person’s fair and reasonable, I don’t need to look any further,” says Phillip.

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

Phillip has gained a number of advantages by opting for a pole barn building from Wick. In addition to having access to exceptional Wick builders like Greg Drechsler, he and his family can enjoy benefits like these:

Superior lumber. To make our buildings stronger and last longer, we use only lumber that meets or exceeds machine graded specs for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.

Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in fewer dents. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection.

High-performance paint. Our paint coating is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Highlights of Phillip’s new building include charcoal gray for the steel walls and gable, and burnished slate for the roof.

Exceptional quality for the long term. Phillip can be confident that his reliable, low-maintenance Wick building is built to last for the next generation—and beyond.
