What the owner wanted

Once the owner decided on an event center, he wanted a facility that would meet a variety of needs:

  1. A reliable building that could serve seasonal visitors coming to enjoy the corn maze, pumpkin patch, and other fall-time fun.
  2. A climate-controlled event center with all the amenities required to serve guests throughout the year, including restrooms, a commercial kitchen, and a spacious area for a variety of festivities.

What was special about the project

What made this project unique was its evolution from a cattle facility into a full-fledged event space. Today, the building’s multi-functional design enables year-round operation, with the owner hosting private events AND giving families a fun-filled destination during the peak of pumpkin season.

The versatility is a testament to the advantages of a pole barn—and to the construction methods used to build it. Post-frame construction gave John an economical way to have a highly durable, attractive building with high ceilings and a super-spacious interior.

Who helped build it

Though it’s true that a pole barn can meet a surprisingly wide range of needs, not all pole barns are created equal. First, choosing the right builder was crucial for John to get just what he wanted. Fortunately, he opted for LaClef Construction, a certified Wick builder with nearly 30 years of experience.

“We looked at some [builders] that were less money, but they had their way and it wasn’t my way, the way I wanted to build it. They weren’t willing to work with me on that, and so we didn’t use them.”

On top of that, the reputation of Wick Buildings also played a big part in his decision. “My neighbors had a Wick, and I knew Wick was a good name, a good, strong company, so we wanted to go with somebody that we could trust.”

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

“This won’t be the last building we build,” says John. That fact makes him even more satisfied that he chose Wick Buildings. According to him, he and his family have a builder and a brand “that we can trust and grow with.”

And they’ll also have buildings they can rely on for the long term because of features like these:

Superior lumber. To make our buildings stronger and last longer, we use only lumber that meets or exceeds machine-graded specs for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.

Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in fewer dents. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection.

High-performance paint. Our paint coating is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Highlights of John’s new building include red for the steel walls and gable, and alpine white for the roof.

Exceptional quality. Wick buildings are meant to be low maintenance and are therefore incredibly reliable. That means John and his family can focus their time and effort on expanding the possibilities at Pumpkin Pants Ranch.
