The Sports Emporium and Workshop that Everyone Loves

Friends of Barb and Scott call their new Wick building “The Sports Emporium.” What began as a need for better workshop space evolved into a fun, multifunctional structure that serves as a pickleball court, woodworking shop, and social hub. Built by Casey Witt Construction of Lake Norden, SD, the project shows how thoughtful design and craftsmanship can deliver both function and enjoyment.

What the owner wanted

When Barb and Scott moved to their property, their only workspace was a small garage and an old, drafty shed. Scott wanted a warm, functional workshop, while Barb envisioned a fun gathering space for friends.

“I’d only played pickleball once or twice,” Barb said, laughing. “But I knew it would be fun here.”

Their vision combined both goals: a comfortable, insulated shop with a full indoor pickleball and cornhole area, plus room for storage and socializing.

What was special about the project

Despite some weather delays, the construction process moved quickly once it began.

“They went gangbusters on it,” Scott said. “They knocked it out and did everything to our expectations.”

The final result is a bright, inviting 40’ x 50’ building that balances fun and functionality. It is a place where Scott can work and Barb can host friends. “There’s nothing we don’t love about this place,” Barb said. “Everyone who visits says, ‘Your shed is so beautiful!’”

Who helped build it

Barb and Scott did not shop around for bids. They went straight to Casey Witt Construction, having worked with Casey before.

“When we decided to build this, we didn’t check with anybody else,” Barb said. “We only went to Casey and said, ‘What can you do for us?’”

They trusted Casey’s quality, work ethic, and follow-through. “He’s always checking,” Scott added. “If anything ever came up, we know he’d take care of it.”

Barb summed it up simply: “He’s just such a personable professional. We love him. Everyone does.”

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

Like all Wick structures, Barb and Scott’s Sports Emporium benefits from superior materials and proven engineering.

Stronger lumber: Every structural component meets or exceeds machine-graded specs and is at least 15% stronger than standard lumber.

Durable steel: Wick’s full-hard exterior steel (80,000 PSI hardness) resists dents and corrosion with G-90 galvanization.

High-performance paint: Backed by a 40-year warranty against chipping or cracking.

Low maintenance: Built to last so owners can focus on fun, not upkeep.
