Residents Are “Chomping at the Bit” to Use New Lions Club Park Shelter

The Lions Club wanted a park shelter for both organization events and community rental. But more than that, they wanted it to look great and attract interest. After weighing their options, they decided on a Wick building. Check out the details on why the Lions Club—and the residents of Windom, Minn.—are loving their new shelter.

What the owner wanted

“It started as a thought or a dream,” recalls Eric, the Lions Club member who helped spearhead the project for a new park shelter. For years, club members had imagined a building where they could host organization events without worrying about the weather. On top of that, they wanted a space that would provide lasting value for the entire community.

Understandably, they also wanted every dollar to count. “When you’re building something to this magnitude,” says Eric, “and it’s all donated money, you want to know where your money is going … and you want to make sure that it’s built good.”

What was special about the project

From the start, the Lions Club envisioned a park building that was as visually striking as it was functional. “We wanted this thing built so it didn’t look like a typical shelter house,” says Eric. “We wanted it to stand out.”

To hit that goal, the builder applied techniques to make the structure distinctive and attractive, including a “step-down” roofing style used from one section of the building to the next.

The final result? In Eric’s words, the builder “knocked it out of the park.” Now, his phone “rings constantly.” “People want to rent this out … they’re just chomping at the bit because it’s so nice.”

Who helped build it

Authorized Wick Buildings dealer Ag Builders led the design and construction process for the new Lions Club park shelter. Ag Builders’ Brandon Pletcher worked closely with the Lions Club to ensure all of their needs—and hopes—were met.

But before the Lions Club chose the Wick option, they requested multiple quotes from area builders.

“We compared those to Wick and we decided that Wick was better. I know that the work that they do is top notch, and we wanted a top-notch building for this community,” Eric says.

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

The Lions Club and the surrounding community of Windom, Minn., now have a welcoming park building they can rely on for a wide range of events. And because the building is from Wick, they’ve also gained a number of long-term advantages:

Superior lumber. To make our buildings stronger and last longer, we use only lumber that meets or exceeds machine-graded specs for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.

Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in fewer dents. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection.

High-performance paint. Our paint coating is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Highlights of the new Lions Club park shelter include smoke gray for the steel walls and gable, and charcoal gray for the roof.

Exceptional quality. Wick buildings are low-maintenance and, therefore, incredibly reliable. That also means that the new park shelter will be available to enjoy for generations to come.
