Family Enjoys 4-Car Garage Pole Barn with Living Area AND Upper Level Schoolhouse

A four-car garage has a lot more possibilities than you might think. Thanks to the versatility of a pole barn, Darren B. and his family not only have a spacious garage but also a great-looking building that includes a kitchen, living area, and an upper level for homeschooling.

What the owners wanted

Darren B. initially had his sights set on a four-car garage. But after meeting with builder Ryan Hartman (more on him below), Darren and his family realized this could also be a great opportunity for a building with added features like a kitchen, a living area, and an upper level schoolhouse.

What was special about the project

This project exemplifies how the interior of a pole barn can be used in multiple ways. But it also shows how the exterior of a pole barn can be put to use for people’s enjoyment. That large porch overhang (pictured above) creates an attractive sheltered area that’s perfect for outdoor gatherings.

Who helped build it

Darren chose to go with Ryan Hartman and his company, Hartman Statewide Buildings, an authorized Wick Builder. “He’d done a really nice job on the buildings that we had seen. The quality was there,” says Darren.

But what really cemented the decision was when Ryan helped Darren and his family realize the possibilities for their pole barn project. With Ryan’s expertise and helpful drawings, Darren says, “He showed us what everything would look like down to the detail. And that’s what we needed.”

As for recommending a builder to someone, Darren is clear: “If anybody’s interested in building a building, you can’t get any better than dealing with Ryan.”

Why a pole barn from Wick Buildings was the right choice

Darren says he and his family are “very, very happy” with the final result. And considering the quality of a Wick building, they’ll likely feel that way for many years to come.

Here are some of the benefits of a Wick building:

Superior lumber. Wick uses only machine graded or machine evaluated lumber for all structural components, from trusses and columns to girts and purlins. In addition to the visual benefits of this cleaner lumber, it’s at least 15% stronger than regular lumber.

Durable steel. All Wick pole barns include full-hard exterior steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better, resulting in less dents. That steel is also G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection. Our paint is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years and comes in a spectrum of colors. Darren and his family opted for beige walls and a hunter green roof.

A more versatile building at a more affordable price. Post-frame buildings, aka pole barns, are composed of larger structural members like prefabricated wooden posts and clear-span trusses. Features like these give owners more options at a more affordable price, a factor that Darren and his family are now experiencing firsthand.
