Wick Goes Extreme!

Wick Buildings is excited to participate in ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in Gladbrook, Iowa.

Congratulations to the Kibe Family!

Wick Buildings is very excited to participate in ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, in Gladbrook, Iowa!

Wick Buildings was recommended to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition by our friends at Iowa State University to be one of the suppliers of the program.

What the family needed was a building to house approximately 35 to 40 head. Wick Buildings is providing a 30'x 50' x14' structure.

The Kibe family was notified on Sunday, September 10 that they were chosen for Extreme Makeover. Wick Buildings got a green light on the project on Friday, September 8 and had two of our top crews on site Wednesday September 13 to start construction.

The Kibe Family Story

Just a few days before Christmas 2005, Shawn Kibe (Father) and his sons went to pick Amy (Mother) up from work when they received a frantic call from a neighbor. Their house was on fire. They rushed back to the farm in time to see the firemen tossing the charred remains of their wrapped Christmas gifts out of the broken windows. The house and nearly all its contents were a total loss.

While the family had fire insurance on the home, the settlement was only enough to pay off the mortgage. After living in hotel rooms for several weeks, the family of 5 moved into a 1 bedroom rented camper trailer parked on their farm. The camper is barely suitable for camping much less LIVING. The bathroom door doesn't shut, and the shower is barely big enough for 10 year-old Kody. Needless to say, his 6'9" father Shawn has a very tough time taking a shower. All three boys sleep in tents outside due to the lack of room within their small camper.

Selling the farm and moving away is not an option. The Kibe family has decided to stay at all costs in order to provide their children with the education they so deserve. They also want to preserve the family togetherness they find on the farm. It has not been just their home; it has been their salvation.
